AMISTAD TURNS 30. Altruistic group helps in disaster

British Ambassador to Mexico Duncan Taylor hosted the annual general meeting of Amistad Británico-Mexicana last month, an event which also served to mark the start of the nonprofit organization’s 30th year helping support Mexico following natural disasters.

During the meeting, Amistad Británico-Mexicana president Colin Stabler pointed out that 2014 had been a very important year for the organization because of the number of severe natural disasters Mexico suffered during that period.

This past year, 2014, was a very busy and important year for Amistad.

Why? Because Amistad responded to the biggest natural disaster to affect Mexico since the Mexico City earthquake in 1985, when Amistad started.

We completed our aid to a community hit by the disastrous flooding caused by Tropical Storm Manuel in Acapulco in September of 2013. Through contact with “Unidos por Ellos” and Anahuac University we got in touch with Altius, an NGO that supports a community on the outskirts of Acapulco that had been flooded.
